Babywearing & Carrying Consultancy

I am hugely passionate about the myriad benefits of carrying your baby in a well fitting sling or carrier (also known as ‘wearing’ your baby). From the practical benefits of simply getting your hands back so you can make a cup of tea or play with an older child, to the psychological and physiological benefits to both baby and carrying adult.

Humans are carrying mammals and every culture in the world has fashioned some form of sling or carrier, many of which have long and rich cultural traditions. Carrying is an instinctive parenting behaviour so there are as many ways to have a carrying relationship with your child as there are children and caregivers and no two journeys will look alike.

I offer support for you and your family wherever you are in your carrying journey starting from providing high-quality information about the extensive benefits of safe babywearing for baby and the carrying adult/s, all the way through to supporting more challenging carrying situations such as tandem carrying, carrying children with additional needs or carrying if you have a disability yourself.

Some common reasons for booking an appointment with a carrying consultant include:

Support before you buy
– if you are looking to buy a sling or carrier and you would like to try a few out or discuss which brands or styles may best suit your needs before you purchase

Support with what you own
– if you have already bought or been gifted a sling / baby carrier and you would like some support learning to use it comfortably and safely
if you have a sling or carrier you are currently using but feel it could be more comfortable and want to get it fit checked
– if you have a sling or carrier you are currently happy using but would like some support using it in different ways for example transitioning to back carrying or learning to breast/chestfeed while using it

Back Carrying
– providing information about the products available and supporting you to learn to safely and comfortably carry your baby or child on your back

Tandem Carrying
– providing information about the products available and supporting you to learn to safely and comfortably ‘tandem carry’ for example twins or multiples, or a toddler and a newborn, for example

Special Circumstances
– providing information about the products available and supporting you to learn to safely and comfortably carry premature infants or children with additional needs, and/or carrying safely if you yourself have a disability or injury
